A bit over 10 Years ago my Dad bought me a car so I could stay in Portland after graduating and have an easier way to commute to and from whatever job I'd get post college graduation. It needed a bit of work that he and a friend did and they drove it out here together. I had to learn how to drive the car as it was a manual transmission, which I'd never driver save a shifting of a gear or two on an old Datsun truck in the middle of the night with Holly and Mary. So...I learned to drive it and I have driven it now for nearly 10 years. I racked up lots of miles on it. To the beach countless times, to the mountains, to Seattle, Leavenworth, Salem, Corvallis, to many, many hiking destinations and umpteen days of work and other around town errands and many more places. I love the Escort. It's been so much a part of my life. But, as it has gotten older and had more miles added to the odometer it has started having issues that aren't worth the cost to repair. So, Dad was tasked yet again with car hunting.
We pooled money and did what we needed to financially and before we knew it Dad was in possession of my new car and on his way to Portland. It was so nice to have him and it was sad and happy to deal with car stuff-new and old. Because of some issues with the Escort I hadn't driven it for a little over a month and had been blessed by some friends who had an extra vehicle and it was insisted that I drive one of them. So we were working with three cars for a few moments-returning borrowed car, taking the Escort to the junkyard, registering and licensing the new car, etc, etc.
So many miles...I had hoped to make it to 254,00 but we were shy a bit.
Farewell Escort. I will miss you-not the bad things, but the good things and all the memories.
At the junkyard-I may have had a few tears in my eyes.
The new car. Ford Focus. Still a manual and not a Skittle colored car. Kudos to my friend, Natalie for that term. She and I had been talking about car colors and I was telling her I didn't want red or green or yellow or any bright colors so she coined "no Skittle colored cars" and I gave that to Dad as a rule. If there is a Skittle that color then it is a no. He did well with a gray.
Dad loves the Farmers Market so we went while he was here.
Check out those huge carrots!
We also drove to Cascade Locks to get milkshakes at our favorite drive-in with the best milkshakes and on the return trip we made a detour that ended up being much longer than I thought it would be to Larch Mountain for some wonderful views of Mt Rainier and Mt Hood and others.
Rainier...
Hood...
Thanks for making the trip Dad and all the work in finding my next set of wheels. I appreciate and love you!
